چکیده

The small size of mesoand microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) devices presents several challenges for full-field deformation measurements. A hybrid system combining Digital Image Correlation (DIC) for in-plane deformation and Electronic Speckle Pattern Interferometry (ESPI) for out-of-plane deformation measurements has been developed for working with these small size scales. Measurement of the full-field 3D deformation is useful for material characterization including tensile and performance testing of the samples. The combination of the two techniques yields a 3D deformation field of the component under test. For this paper, simple tensile test specimens of 0.76 mm × 10 mm were deformed to create simultaneous in-plane and out-of-plane deformations. The experimental system will be described in detail with a discussion of the results. A comparison between ESPI and DIC results will be briefly discussed, and compared to a conventional point-to-point shadowgraph measurement.

Electronic Laser Speckle Interferometer for Displacement Measurement using Digital Image Processing Technique

Digital speckle image correlation techniques have been successfully proven to be an accurate displacement analysis tool for a wide range of applications. In this paper, a new Electronic Laser Speckle Pattern Interferometer based on Michelson interferometer is designed. An object beam back scattered of an object surface and a reference beam, originating from the same laser light source are super...

Micro- and Nanoscale Deformation Measurement of Surface and Internal Planes via Digital Image Correlation

The digital image correlation (DIC) technique is successfully applied across multiple length scales through the generation of a suitable speckle pattern at each size scale. For microscale measurements, a random speckle pattern of paint is created with a fine point airbrush. Nanoscale displacement resolution is achieved with a speckle pattern formed by solution deposition of fluorescent silica n...

Dynamic Micro-strain Analysis of Ultrafine-grained Aluminum Magnesium alloy using Digital Image Correlation

Tensile tests were performed in situ on an ultrafine-grained (UFG) Al-Mg alloy using a micro-tensile module in a scanning electron microscope (SEM). The micro-strain evolution was tracked and measured using digital image correlation (DIC). A fine random speckle pattern was required to achieve high resolution and accuracy of strain measurement using DIC. To produce the speckle pattern, a pattern...

Analysis of speckle patterns for deformation measurements by digital image correlation

Digital Image Correlation (DIC) – also referred to as white light speckle technique – is an optical-numerical full-field measuring technique, which offers the possibility to determine in-plane displacement fields at the surface of objects under any kind of loading. For an optimal use of the method, the object of interest has to be covered with a speckle pattern. The present paper studies the ef...
